Palestinian religious authorities are to make changes to Islamic divorce laws that will make it easier for women to divorce their husbands, reports the Washington Post.
Under Palestinian law, men can divorce their wives without needing to go to court, but a woman can only get a divorce with her husband's permission or if she is able to prove in court that she has been mistreated.
The changes will remove the requirement for women to prove mistreatment. Judges will be able to decide without evidence that a marriage is harmful for the wife and allow the divorce.
