Increase in calls to advice line regarding child contact

Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) has announced an increase in the number of calls to its Child Law Advice Line on the subject of 'contact with children.'

The figures show that:

  • From 1st January to 31st Dec 2010 calls to CCLC totalled 9,988; Calls concerning ‘contact’ totalled 2800 (28%).
  • From 1st January to 31st Dec 2011 calls to CCLC totalled 10,259, Calls concerning ‘contact’ totalled 3371 (33%). This represents a rise of 5%.

According to the charity, this signifies a clear increase in acrimonious or non-existent contact arrangements causing both children and parents emotional and legal distress.

Coram Children’s Legal Centre has also announced the launch a new online advice service for vulnerable families who might not otherwise have access to legal advice.
