The latest court statistics released by the Ministry of Justice show that fewer domestic violence applications or domestic violence orders were made between April and June of this year than in the same period last year.
The decrease reflects a general downward trend in the number of family-related applications and disposals overall.
In particular, the statistics show:
• 7,400 children were involved in public law applications in the second quarter of this year - up 22% on the same period last year
• 24,500 children were involved in private law applications between April and June this year - down 22%
• the number of decrees absolute granted dropped 3% to 29,000
• 14% fewer domestic violence orders (5,300) were made between April and June than in the same period last year (6,100)
• over the same period, domestic violence applications dropped 17% to 5,100
