A recent UK based survey into the reasons why couples divorce has found that disputes over household chores were the cause of divorce for 30% of couples polled, reports the Daily Mail. Infidelity caused 40% of marriage breakdowns, and drifting apart 35%.
The research, which was carried out by Vileda, found that couples would have an argument about the offending domestic chores three times a month on average, and would decide to separate after nine months.
'Day-to-day domestic problems may seem trivial at first but, if it happens every single day, resentment can build and it can lead to much bigger issues,” said Lindsey Taylor, brand manager for Vileda, reports the Daily Mail.
Around 63% didn't regret the decision to divorce, but 55% admitted they could have tried harder to solve the problem. Over 80% of those in a new relationship said they were trying to avoid a repeat of the mistakes they made in their previous marriage.
