The latest figures from the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) show that it received a total 972 applications in October 2013. This makes October the second highest month for applications this year and represents a 2% increase over the number received in October 2012.
The figures also show that between April and October 2013, Cafcass received a total of 6,262 applications, which is a 2% drop over the same period last year.
Cafcass represents children in family court cases, making sure that their voices are heard and that the decisions that are made about them are in their best interests. It supports or works with over 145,000 children in public and private law cases every year.
The types of cases Cafcass typically works with include:-
- Adoption (public law).
- Care Orders (public law).
- Emergency Protection Orders (public law).
- Residency and contact following divorce and separation (private law).
