The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) has published its Annual Report and Accounts for 2011-12.
The report reveals the following key points:
- Over the year, Cafcass worked with 145,810 children.
- Cafcass received 10,218 care applications, which amount to an 11% increase over the previous year.
- During January 2012 the service received 916 applications, the highest ever received for a single month. The months from May 2011 to February 2012 saw the highest number of applications ever recorded for those individual months.
- By the end of March 2012, 99.3% of care cases were allocated to a Children's Guardian, 0.1% were unallocated and 0.7% were allocated on a duty basis.
- There was a 4.4% fall in private law applications, from 43,712 in 2010-11 to 41,778.
- There was an increase in attendance at Separated Parents Information Programmes, from 13,000 to 18,279 adults.
